Schlumbergera or Christmas Cactus is a very popular, winter-flowering houseplant. Schlumbergera is part of Cactaceae family. It is native to coastal mountains of south-eastern Brazil. Plant develops its striking blooms from November to December.
Schlumbergera is easy to care for, following its basic care requirements of bright to medium indirect light. Keep the soil lightly moist at spring and summer time, but never let soil get soggy. Allow the top of the soil to slightly dry out in-between watering and even little bit more during the winter.
To bloom Schlumbergera plant needs a period of rest. During this time the Schlumbergera should only be watered lightly, and the temperature should be lower at around 12°C. If these requirements are met, the plant will develop buds during the autumn months that will open up during Christmas time.
